POLICING GREEN PAPER

Reducing bureaucracy or structural change? - July 2008

The policing green paper "From the neighbourhood to the national: policing our communities together" sets out government plans for the future of the police service. Its stated aim is to enable the police to better face current challenges: new forms of criminal activity and terrorism, and new types of partnership working. The green paper proposes new ways of working with the police – not only in relation to preventing crime, but also in improving public confidence.

The green paper focuses on seven key issues:

  1. Local delivery of policing
  2. Cut bureaucracy and improve use of technology
  3. Officer and staff roles and development
  4. Improving workforce development and deployment
  5. Government support for reform
  6. Reinforcing collaboration across police forces to improve ‘protective services’

Further Information on The Green Paper can be found here.
