ONLINE CRIME MAPS

The Home Office wants all police forces to provide online, interactive crime maps by the end of 2008. These maps will allow residents to examine local crime patterns, under the assumption that this will encourage them to become more involved with their local police and enable them to hold the police to account if necessary. It is hoped that this will help to increase public confidence in the police and make communities safer. The Metropolitan police force has introduced its first trial crime map showing burglary, robbery and vehicle crime for the whole of London.
